Salome (given name)

Salome is a feminine name derived from the Hebrew word ''shalom'', meaning "peace."〔http://www.behindthename.com/name/salome〕
Salome (c. early 1st century CE) was the daughter of Herodias, and nemesis of John the Baptist (Mark 6:17-29 and Matt 14:3-11). Christians have traditionally regarded her as a dangerous temptress. Salome is also the name of a Christian saint, who was traditionally one of the women who witnessed the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The name is currently among the top 10 names given to newborn girls in 2011 in Georgia〔http://www.cra.gov.ge/index.php?lang_id=ENG&sec_id=49&info_id=1894〕 and Colombia.〔http://rneccolombia.blogspot.com/2012/02/santiago-juan-david-mariana-y-maria.html〕 It is ranked among the top 100 names for girls in France.〔http://www.behindthename.com/name/salome〕 It is less popular in the United States, where it does not rank among the top 1,000 names; just 82 newborn girls there were given the name in 2010.〔http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/〕
